The past is converging.......

(before I start - excuse the crappy scan of a photo at left, my scanner sucks - but aren't we cute?) So in the past couple of days my friend Steph has sent me a couple of links that have been serious blasts from the past. This one: http://www.westword.com/Issues/1997-08-21/music/music7.html talks about the d.j.ing adventures of one of her ex-boyfriends. What's interesting about the article for ME was all the other people and places it mentions. Pretty much a laundry list of the places where we spent our nights and the people who played the music. We knew them, dated them or had friends who dated them. Yep, if you were active in the Denver dance club scene from the late-eighties to the mid-nineties, me & Steph probably knew ya. I have no regrets about that time of my life, it was fabulous. A little distracting maybe but, all in all an awesome way to spend my 20s.

Of course, it wasn't all fun & games. There were serious objectives that needed accomplishing. One that was always high on our (me & my girlfriends') priority lists was getting back at asshole guys who had wronged us somehow. Those of you who have happened to know men in their 20s know that this is a phase of their lives when they are inclined to particularly assholeish behavior and on top of that, we were always picking major winners in professions like bartender, bouncer& band member. That meant there was a lot of justice that needed dishing out on a regular basis, and we were not only prolific but creative in our approach to revenge. Our little buddy and dancing escort Doug, who did a very memorable work stint in Denver, tells about one such incident in his blog:

It doesn't end there, nope it doesn't. We employed such devices as giant Barbie wall murals, packing peanuts and shrimp tied on a string in some of our other escapades. Was our behavior immature? Probably. Was it silly? Most definitely! Did it bring us closer as friends and help us release our anger & frustration in a (mostly) non-destructive and cathartic way? Absolutely, and I wouldn't do it differently, even if I could. Viva los dirty deeds!! Long live the past!

Man, you bring back some great memories. And what's with my brows!? You did that to me you know... penciling them in. They were huge as it was, I don't know why I let you talk me into "accenting them! Thanks for the stroll down memory lane!
