Bishop's Castle, a local landmark. The kids had never been there so we took them today. I decided after getting energized at yoga this morning that we needed to have a little adventure, and this fit the bill. It's a scenic drive to get there, not too far and we could eat in Colorado City on the way. It's a bit of an oddball attraction really. A one-man project, started in 1969. You can read all about it here:

I've been there a few times, but it's been a while and was interesting to see the progress made on it since last I was there. We had it all to ourselves which was great. The day was beautiful with bright blue clear skies and moderate temperatures. It was still a little chilly in the shadows of the castle, but we didn't mind. The kids got a huge kick out of the whole thing. They were a bit freaked out about the height issues and climbing narrow wrought-iron stairs, but were very proud of themselves for doing it and laughing about how scared they were afterwards. Juliana, who is kind of obsessed with ghosts thanks to her mother, kept insisting she saw a "shadow man" - although I think she was just working her very productive imagination. She was quite matter-of-fact about it and not scared at all, which made me smile. So, after exploring for a while we were cold & ready to go. Had a nice, scenic ride home with lots of the kind of family chatter that I love. It was a good adventure. :) Posted by Picasa
